SIUE School of Engineering Beats Its Own Record of Competition Wins by Topping 2024 IEEE Competition
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) St. Louis Section Blackbox competition was held on October 26 at Washington University in St. Louis. Participants from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering (SOE) participated in the competition.
There were two categories in competition: Digital and Analog Circuit Analysis. Students competed in teams of two to analyze a mystery circuit and figure out as many details of the circuit as possible in three hours. Students who took part in this opportunity were able to test their technical skills and interact with students from area engineering schools.
All SIUE students who took part won top placement. Each team that gets placed wins a cash award from the IEEE St. Louis Section. The first-place teams won a cash award of $400 and the third-place team won $150. Here are the SIUE winners.
Analog Blackbox
1st place: Dalton Grove and Luke Head (SIUE)
3rd place: Shaun Pacatte and Trace Butler (SIUE)
Digital Blackbox
1st place: Emma Griebenow and Gavin Shelton (SIUE)
As the first-place winner in both categories, SIUE will now host the Blackbox competition in 2025. Students competing in 2024 have given SIUE’s SOE the best year yet in terms of number of wins.
