Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is proud to announce the appointment of Sydney Greenwalt, PhD, as Director of Counseling Services. Greenwalt begins her role on December 16. Rony Die, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, selected Greenwalt following an extensive national search.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Greenwalt back to SIUE,” said Die. “Her depth of experience, commitment to student success, and vision for supporting and engaging the campus community make her an exceptional choice to lead Counseling Services.”
Greenwalt is a licensed psychologist and proud alumna of SIUE, where she earned her master’s degree in Clinical Adult Psychology. She later completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, with advanced training through a pre-doctoral internship at the University of Kansas Counseling and Psychological Services and a post-doctoral residency at Western Illinois University Counseling Center.
With more than a decade of experience working with college students, Greenwalt brings a wealth of clinical expertise to SIUE. Her professional background includes providing individual and group psychotherapy, comprehensive psychological assessments, supervision of counselors-in-training, and psychoeducational outreach. She has worked in diverse settings, including community mental health centers, residential treatment facilities, and university counseling centers.
Greenwalt’s approach is grounded in the core values of counseling psychology, including a focus on personal strengths, holistic development, advocacy, and the integration of science and practice.
Reflecting on her vision for Counseling Services, Greenwalt shared, “Counseling Services plays an essential role in SIUE’s efforts to help students cultivate the skills necessary for success both inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to positioning our department as a provider of quality prevention and intervention efforts and as a key collaborator for the campus community.”
Greenwalt is deeply committed to advancing SIUE’s mission of excellence, inclusion, and civic engagement. She plans to leverage institutional research to develop data-informed strategies that address the unique needs of SIUE students, while enhancing the department’s reputation as a trusted resource and advocate for mental health.
“I am excited to partner with students, faculty, and staff to promote a culture of well-being and success at SIUE,” said Greenwalt. “Together, we can ensure that every student feels supported and empowered to achieve their goals.”
