GA Handbook: Key Information
All graduate assistants should make sure they are aware of the following valuable resources and key information. If you are searching for a GA position, view the GA Current Postings for information on the search process and open positions.
- This GA handbook contains detailed information about all graduate assistantships including eligibility requirements, benefits, stipend amounts and more. It is a vital resource for all graduate assistants.
- All newly hired graduate assistants, including teaching assistants, research assistants, and general assistants, should complete the online GA orientation for comprehensive information about servings as a GA. The online orientation can be accessed at any time through the GA Orientation website.
- After accepting an assistantship, the hiring unit will create an online contract. GAs will receive an email at their SIUE email account from [email protected] with information on how to complete the online hiring packet. This must be completed before the payroll record and tuition waiver can be processed.
- New GAs and GAs who have had a break in service will complete an I-9 in person with their hiring unit. State and federal tax documents (W4s) must be submitted to the hiring unit. New international GAs must make an appointment with Denise Hunt in Human Resources to complete the W4s.
- GAs are paid semi-monthly, on the 16th and the last day of the month. New GAs who have never worked an on-campus position before will receive their first paycheck at their current mailing address listed in CougarNet. All GAs are required to enter their direct deposit information via CougarNet. This information should be added to CougarNET as soon as possible once the contract is processed.
- If you have any questions or concerns about graduate assistantships, including application of your tuition waiver or payroll concerns, please contact us at [email protected] or call us at 618-650-3010.
