Southern Illinois University offers several programs which lead to professional licensure in Illinois. All students should be aware that states vary in their educational and professional requirements depending on the profession in which they choose.
While many of the programs offered by SIUE are intended to prepare a student for licensure/certification; meeting the educational requirements established by the appropriate regulatory board, licensure/certification requirements may vary among jurisdictions. The Art Therapy Counseling (MA) program at SIUE is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE). Our program meets the educational standards for application for the national credentials of Registered Art Therapist - ATR and/or Board Certified Registered Art Therapist - ATR-BC . In Illinois, an applicant for licensure for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC ) or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC ) must submit their official transcripts and program materials for evaluation for the board to determine if educational requirements have been met. This is not a reflection upon our program but the educational review process of the board is required of all applicants. Due to this and the ultimate discretion off the board, we have not been able to determine if our program meets the educational requirements.

The Doctor of Dental Medicine Program (D.M.D) and the Endodontics program are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and therefore satisfy the educational requirement for licensure/specialization in all fifty states.
In addition to educational requirements, a state licensure board may have additional requirements such as examination, clinical hours, character fitness inquiry, jurisprudence examination, proof of malpractice insurance, Basic Life Support (BLS) or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, background check, fingerprint verification, interview, hepatitis B vaccination, completion of course in infection control, radiation safety, etc.

The programs leading to RN licensure at SIUE are approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The post-licensure programs are also accredited by CCNE and have accreditations by accrediting bodies particular to their specialty. In addition to meeting the educational requirements for licensure, an applicant for licensure may also be required to provide their fingerprints, submit to criminal background check, etc. Prior to enrolling in a program contact the board of nursing for the most up to date and accurate information.

Upon completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) program at SIUE School of Pharmacy, graduates will meet the educational requirements for application for licensure in Illinois.
Prior to enrolling in the PharmD program, a student should contact the state board of pharmacy in the state they wish to practice for the most complete and up to date information pertaining to licensure. In Illinois contact the Pharmacy Professions Licensed by IDFPR.

The Principal Endorsement PreK – age 21 on an Illinois’ Professional Educator License requires an applicant to hold a master’s degree or higher and complete a state approved preparation program in the field of specialization. The Principal program at SIUE meets the educational requirements for the endorsement. This program offers three pathways 1) a Master of Science in Education (MSEd), 2) Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) for those that already hold a Master’s, or 3) a certification only for those that already hold a Master’s degree but do not wish to obtain an additional graduate degree.
Upon completion of the Psychology - Specialist in School Psychology (SSP) program at SIUE and all Illinois professional educator licensure requirements, a graduate will meet the education requirements in Illinois to apply for a Professional Educator license with an endorsement in School Psychology PreK – age 21.
The Superintendent Endorsement PreK – age 21 on an Illinois’ Professional Educator License requires an applicant to hold a master’s degree or higher and complete a state approved preparation program in the field of specialization. The Superintendentprogram at SIUE meets the educational requirements for the endorsement. This program offers three pathways 1) a Master of Science in Education (MSEd), 2) Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) for those that already hold a Master’s, or 3) a certification only for those that already hold a Master’s degree but do not wish to obtain an additional graduate degree.

SIUE meets the educational requirements for Subsequent Endorsements in Early Childhood Education birth to 2nd grade, Secondary Math 9th to 12th, Theater PreK to 12th, Visual Arts PreK to 12th, Secondary English/Language Arts, Secondary Social Science/History, Secondary Social Science/Political Science, Secondary Social Science/Geography, Secondary Science/Biology, Secondary Science/Chemistry, Secondary Science/Physics 9th - 12th, Foreign Language: Spanish, German, and French, Pre-K-12th, Music PreK to 12th, Special Education K to age 21, and Reading Teacher PreK to 12th.
