Dr. Misty Gonzalez is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. She practices psychiatric clinical pharmacy and participates in interdisciplinary teaching rounds partnered with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University Saint Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Gonzalez joined SIUE from the New York State Office of Mental Health and the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, where she completed residencies in pharmacy practice and psychiatry. Dr. Gonzalez is a graduate of Purdue University College of Pharmacy.

Clinical interests:
Areas of interest include treatment of severe and persistent mental illness and comorbid medical conditions, mentally ill chemical abusers, drug-induced psychosis, and adjunctive pharmacotherapy for prevention and management of psychiatric crisis situations. Dr. Gonzalez aims to communicate the fundamentals of psychopharmacology while serving as a role model for an empathetic approach in participating in the care of individuals challenged with mental illness.
Practice Site Information
Dr. Gonzalez's current practice site is inpatient psychiatry at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. By integrating didactic coursework with case-based teaching, Dr. Gonzalez fosters critical thinking, facilitates the acquisition of life-long learning skills, and assists in the development of problem-solving strategies to navigate through the psychotropic-related situations pharmacists may encounter in their careers. Her clinical practice includes modeling the ideology of maintaining hope for recovery and for the reduction of stigma against individuals challenged with mental illness.
Scholarly Interests
Research interests include pharmacogenomics, treatment of chronic schizophrenia, delirium, prevention of medication side effects, and adjunctive pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy for prevention and management of psychiatric crisis situations.
