What is Cascade Server?
Hannon Hill's Cascade Server is SIUE's content management system for web pages.
Cascade is completely web based. All Cascade site changes/updates will be done through your web browser.

Cascade Tips and Tricks
- IMPORTANT: After logging into Cascade, always make sure you click the "Go to a Site" dropdown menu (located at the top of the page to the left) and select Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.
- IMPORTANT: When creating new PAGES: for the Page Name field, use all lowercase letters and DO NOT use spaces (instead of a space, use an underscore or dash).
- IMPORTANT: When importing FILES (images, pdf's, etc) into Cascade, leave the Page Name field blank. The actual name of your file will automatically be used for the Page Name and may cause errors with your uploaded file if not left blank.
- IMPORTANT: Always use the Heading 2 format option for the first header on your page. NEVER use the Heading 1 format for any headers on your page since the Heading 1 format is already used for the Section Header.
- IMPORTANT: If you are pasting text into the body of your page, ALWAYS make sure it is PLAIN TEXT and always use "Ctrl + V" on your keyboard.
- To cut/copy/paste in the WYSIWYG editor, you must use keyboards shortcuts: Cut (Windows: Ctrl-X Mac: Cmd-X), Copy (Windows: Ctrl-C Mac: Cmd-C), Paste (Windows: Ctrl-V Mac: Cmd-V)
- For more bullet options for an ordered or unordered list, highlight the desired text, click the "Ordered List" or "Unordered List" button, then click the "Styles" dropdown menu and select a bullet style from the list of options
- To add a line break: press 'SHIFT' + 'ENTER' on your keyboard
- If you are having problems with pages loading properly within Cascade, log out of Cascade and log back in. If that doesn't work properly, you may need to restart your browser or clear your browser cache.
- DO NOT delete old versions of documents.

How do I add a video to my site?
- YuJa is the University’s primary platform for storing media content. It has been invaluable for increasing the accessibility with captioning and being an effective tool for engagement with its quizzing and analytics features. It will serve as the primary platform for storing media content across campus, giving faculty, students, and staff the ability to create, upload, and share videos from one location. In addition to its storing and sharing capabilities, YuJa allows users to do basic video editing, integrate quizzing and other video interactivity, and bring in external videos for enhancements. YuJa automatically adds closed captioning, helping to meet University accessibility goals and achieve ADA compliance.

CONVERT WORD DOCS TO CLEAN HTML
Do you want to paste the contents of a Word document in one of your Cascade pages?
Are you frustrated that you have to paste as plain text and then reformat everything (bullets, bold text, links, etc) in Cascade?
Give this a try:
Convert Word Documents to Clean HTML
Just paste the contents of your Word document into the this converter and it will spit out clean HTML to then copy and paste in the HTML source editor of your Cascade page.
It may work perfect for you, or it may need a few tweaks after it is in Cascade, but either way it should save you a lot of work with reformatting.
Another option is, of course, to convert your Word document to a .pdf file, import the .pdf file and then simply link to it.
Your call on which option you want to use.
Check Your Microsoft Office 2010 Files For Accessibility
Microsoft Office 2010 includes a new tool for Word, Excel and PowerPoint called the Accessibility Checker, which you can use to check your document for any issues that might make it challenging for a user with a disability. To learn more, see Accessibility Checker.
URL Shortner
If you are wanting to link to something that has a very long URL (in the hundreds of characters) this may cause an issue with Cascade. The Cascade linking action tends to break when extremely long URL's are used as links. To get around this Cascade limitation, we recommend the use of a URL shortener.
You can use tiny.cc URL Shortener here: https://tiny.cc
Just click the "Shorten URLs" button and paste your long URL in the field. You can also customize how the shortened URL will look in that window (remember to keep it short!).
A short URL will be generated for you to use instead of the long one. Just copy this and use it as the URL in Cascade.
There are some other features on tiny.cc as well. Such as creating a QR code from the shortened URL and seeing how many times it has been clicked, which browser and OS they used, and which country they are from.
You can login when you create short URL's and it will save them in your account for you to reference later.
