Purpose
This program offers partial support for print and electronic publication costs as well as production costs for exhibits and performances that are related to faculty and staff members’ scholarly activity. It is expected that publication and production costs are written into the budgets of externally-sponsored projects when allowed by the sponsor. All internal funding requirements must be met before publication and production cost funds can be accessed except under extenuating circumstances.
Award Description
The Graduate School will provide up to 75% (capped at $2,000) of the eligible publication or production costs. The remaining 25% must be covered another way, including but not limited to the applicant's unit, externally sponsored projects, and other institutional sources.
Eligibility
All full-time continuing members of the faculty (tenure and non-tenure track) and administrative professional staff, and postdoctoral fellows and visiting assistant professors are eligible. Eligibility requires that SIUE is listed as the author's institution in the professional bio information provided to the publisher.
- All post-tenure faculty and staff may receive one award up to a maximum of the cap per fiscal year.
- All pre-tenure faculty may receive more than one award in a fiscal year to a total of no more than the cap
Faculty and staff with at least one active externally sponsored project during the current fiscal year are eligible for a second award up to a maximum of the cap; these funds cannot be pooled into a single request.
The following publication costs are eligible for support: page, reprint, one-time OER publication costs for textbooks or courseware, and book subvention costs, including costs for color printing when necessary for content clarity.
OER publications eligible for publication and production costs must first receive approval from the OER Committee.
The following production costs are not eligible for support: copyediting services, indexing services, booklets, subscription fees, web hosting, or other recurring fees, travel, space rental, costume, and scenery costs.
