Laura Baker has worked for SIUE in various roles since 2003. Before becoming an Instructor for the Department of Social Work in 2022, she was the Coordinator of Social Services and Counselor for SIUE Counseling Services (CS). While in that role, she served on the university’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and Conduct, Assessment, and Intervention Team (CAIT). She provided individual and group counseling, facilitated and oversaw all Life Skills Development Courses, and provided psychological assessments and crisis intervention as needed. She was also a Practicum Supervisor Instructor (PSI) for interns in the Bachelor and Master of Social Work programs.
Outside of the university, Laura worked as a Suicide and Crisis Interventionist on local and national crisis lines and completed her master’s internship at Alternative to Living in Violent Environments (ALIVE), an agency in the St. Louis area that serves individuals who are experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).
In her personal time, Laura enjoys spending time with her loved ones (both with and without fur), reading, and exploring nature whenever she can.
